Teaching

My teaching philosophy is shaped by my experiences as an engineering education scholar, an educator, and a student. Through my coursework in Engineering Education, I have developed a strong theoretical foundation in pedagogy, assessment, and evidence-based instructional practices. I have paired this preparation with practical teaching experiences as a graduate teaching assistant for a first-year engineering course, a co-instructor for a global engineering class, a math tutor, a supplemental math and science educator, and a facilitator of workshops and guest lectures. These experiences have led me to develop three core tenets:

  1. Design courses with backward design and scaffolded learning
  2. Integrate purposeful teaching activities that strengthen both technical and professional competencies
  3. Foster an inclusive classroom community by valuing students’ backgrounds and helping build connections in the classroom

Student Comments

“She assigned a lot of in class group work which allowed me to meet new people. This was very helpful especially since the class is the group I will be studying abroad with. All of the assignments had reasonable expectations and taught me about the countries we will be traveling to. She always tried to get to know the students and I am excited to travel with her. She has a very sweet personality and is very approachable”

“Helped get the class together and connect with each other.”

“Made a welcoming environment.”
